01 - Central North Island

This week we travelled up to Auckland to pick up our caravan. Excitement levels were high but also exhausting racking up that many km’s In a day. Heading up we decided to take a break on the desert road so the boys could get rid of some excess energy. The tonal beauty of this landscape Is a feast for the eyes and offers an array of textures and materials for the kids to explore. On the way back we decided to split up the journey again and stay at a DOC site just North of the desert road on the edge of a river in the Kaimanawa Forrest. One of my favorite things to do in this part of Aotearoa is to soak in the thermal hot springs, Maori believe there are healing powers in the water and after a good soak I think they are right! Just 5 minutes drive out of Turangi is a hidden gem, away from the crowds of Taupo, Tokaanu Thermal Pools. A private pool was only $24 for the 4 of us and after a big drive all of our bodies were a bit achy. We can’t wait for more adventures in our caravan!
